5/2/2018 Update on Michelle...She aspirated following a regurgitation episode last evening five hours after she ate. She more than likely has aspiration pneumonia which can be life threatening for her. I contacted her vet immediately and we are going to go in early am to get her an antibiotic shot. There is nothing more than we can do at this time for the sweet girl but hope for the best and pray that our strategies to keep her from aspiration are effective.
4/30/2018 Meet Michelle. Michelle is a sweet little puppy that was rescued along with her mommy and three siblings around 6 weeks ago. All seemed to be going well for her. Then around weaning time, Michelle started choking on her food. Her foster mommy had to revive her on two different occasions. We took Michelle to the local vet and then to VSS in St. Louis, MO. She was diagnosed with a condition called Megaesophagous. It is typically a fatal disease. Most dogs generally pass from aspiration pneumonia due to the inability to swallow food and/or malnutrition. This condition requires very specialized care, special, high calorie, nutrient dense food, medication and occasional IV fluids administered by her foster mommy. PPP has decided that Michelle deserves the best life possible. Another foster took her in and will be providing the care for her. She will occasionally be boarded at Hicks Animal Hospital in Poplar Bluff to continue with the specialized care that she requires.
Please consider donating to PPP to help provide for the care that Michelle requires. Every little bit will help the rescue immensely. Thank you so much for your consideration.
